Martin Nevin

Bassist, Composer, Educator

Martin Nevin is a NYC–based composer and bassist who has performed throughout the U.S. and internationally with artists including Albert “Tootie” Heath, Billy Hart, Greg Osby, Ethan Iverson, and Aaron Parks. His debut album, Tenderness is Silent (2017), featured a collection of intimate compositions for jazz quintet and was praised by bassist Larry Grenadier as “one of the best new recordings I have heard lately…the music conveys strong emotions and reverberates to the heart.”

In 2017, Nevin received a grant from the American Composers Forum to compose Scratch at the Same Table, a song cycle based on the poetry of Jonathan C. Creasy. His release A Drowsy Shadow explores an electronic, synthesizer-based sound world and features guest artists including Sam Gendel. Most recently, he released a trio album with Bergman Burger Nevin, featuring pedal steel guitarist Luke Bergman and drummer Jason Burger.

For this performance at Sam First, Nevin is joined by guitarist Anthony Wilson and drummer Christian Euman.
